Saint Joan
The game starts in this day and age in New York City – more precisely at the Wall Street. Thousands of people gathered for the beginning of a nationwide protest against a corrupt system induced by big American Banks. The head of the protests is a young energetic woman – Joanne ‚JoJo‘ Arc. She is a thorn in the flesh of the CEOs of the greatest American Banks. They decide that she must fall. As a result, the demonstration will end, or at least that is what they think. As someone hears JoJo talking about her inner voices that tell her what to do, one of the CEOs brings his influence to bear. JoJo is brought to a mental institution where she is drugged. This is the start of the main part of the game.
Joan, dressed as a maid, arrives in Vaucouleurs. She receives the order from her Voices to crown Charles in the Rheims Cathedral and lift the siege of Orléans. In the castle of Vaucouleur, she convinces Robert de Baudricourt and his Steward to support her quests. After being well-equipped with armor and a fast horse, Joan is on her way to Chinon where she meets a weak and cowardly Dauphin and the devout Archbishop. She manages to get them on her side and support her mission.
Leading an army, Joan arrives at the river bank of the Loire near Orléans. She comes upon Dunois who teaches her not only how to handle her sword, but also how to improve her strategically thinking and tactic skills. After intense training Joan will lead the army as a saint or takes part as an ordinary soldier.
Joan’s triumph on the battlefield not only brings her tremendous support from the common people and soldiers, but also the mistrust and envy of Richard de Beauchamp (Earl of Warwick), John de Stogumber, and Cauchon (the Bishop of Beauvais). They fear the national pride Joan spreads and that she undermines the Church’s rule and the feudal system. Thus, they agree on her being a threat, and, therefore, must die.
Meanwhile Joan takes part in the coronation of Charles VII in the Cathedral of Rheims. She is weary of the ordinary life after the battle, and is looking for the next adventure, which she finds in taking Compiègne and Paris. However, she cannot find any supporters for her new mission.
After being caught by the Burundians, Joan is sold to the Church and the Inquisition. She is imprisoned in the keep of the Castle at Rouen. After several attempts to escape she gets to the Bishop’s court and is trialed by the Inquisition.
The epilogue is set in the mental institution again. However, the ending depends on which traits the player fostered throughout the game – will Joan become a saint or an ordinary soldier.
